I have been sick now for about over 3 weeks, maybe 4, I don’t know but I do know I am over it. O-V-A-H.
I’ve been to the Doctor three times and been on antibiotics twice, each time I get better and then get sick within a day or two of the tablets finishing. It seems that where my nose and throat meets is constantly infected, painful to swallow and (sorry about this) creating some lovely green muck. Last time I went he prescribed some sinus cough medicine (who knew such a product existed?), nurofen and a very quiet weekend.
So, I’ve done all that. I am averaging 9 or 10 hours of sleep a night and am also using anti-bacterial throat lozenges, rinsing my nasal cavities with saline (sexy!) drinking heaps of water and herbal teas, I’ve watched 5 episodes of Beverley Hills 90210
and Cocoon, I only left the house for a five minute walk to the shop to buy freshly squeezed orange juice and I even had a 2 hour nap during the day yesterday and yet…. I still feel sick.
WTF? My glands feel like they are the size of Polaris missiles (anyone that gets that reference scores a free lozenge), it’s painful to swallow, when I do swallow I can hear my ear canals opening and closing, I am tired, lethargic and really fucking sick of being sick.
I’ve had glandular before so it can’t be that. I don’t know what to do. One of my colleagues, Mel, said she had a similar thing. The infection was hanging out in the folds of her tonsils and when she got stressed or run-down the infection would reappear, her Doctor gave her a 6 week course of antibiotics.
I am quite rundown after a few weeks of this, I am working long hours and am fairly stressed with work/life right now so my immune system is not functioning at its optimum level, despite all the vitamins I am chowing down on each day. I’m a worrier at heart too, so telling me not to stress doesn’t really work.
My Doctor is only open Monday to Friday, should I go to a Medical Centre today and ask them for a longer course of antibiotics? Do I ask them to test me for glandular as apparently although it’s extremely rare you can develop it again?
I am really, really tired of this and don’t need this shit anymore.

I hope you feel better soon! If you are feeling lousy and it’s getting worse, go to the Medical Center. I don’t know if they would prescribe you a longer dose or just something to carry you through until you see your doctor. Then again, if you went to a Medical Center here in the States, you’d be sitting in the waiting room long enough for your doctor’s office to open on Monday morning.
Keep us posted!
The sooner you jump on the antibiotics again the sooner you will start to feel better sweets. Go to the medical centre and get a short course then see ur doc through the week to get a longer one.
Though given that it is now Sunday the point is probably moot LOL. Hope ur feeling better soon. I can really empathise with the whole stress factor as I am certain that all the crap going on at work atm (combined with the craziness of my personal life currently) is most certainly what has made me sick this time round. Glad ur looking after urself at least ma’am! *hugs*
Nag and harass them until you get something different and stronger. I get the same thing with my sinuses, and time after time, the infection keeps coming back. I’ve got one lot of pills left, and then I’m going back and kicking some ass.
How long ago did you have glandular? My other half had it when he was a kid, and about 8 months ago he was feeling really rundown, so he went for a blood test. It came back saying he’d had glandular, to which he said “yeah, I had it when I was a kid.” The doctor said “it only shows up on blood tests if you’ve had it in the last 5 years.”
So maybe a possibility?
Being sick sucks, especially when you don’t have a boy around to look after you!
Wish I could be there to tuck you in, cook you a roast and change the Bevvers DVD.
love you x x
I say stronger antibiotics. I couldn’t kick mine last year, and it lasted for around a month – and I was about to throw in the towel.
Med Centre, followed by stern words to your GP.
Hugs Hugs Hugs.
Darling!
Demand the best attention possible! Seek second opinions! Feel no shame in saying this is beating me and I need help, please, thankyoukindly. Where are the drugs?
And while all of that kicks in and you’re still high on nasel decongestants, get happy with the DVD collection. This is what box sets were made for.
Mwah!
La La! My poor wee, sick little La La! You definately need to get a second opinion, tho I know that’s probably the last thing you feel like doing whilst feeling so ill, but for your own benifit in the long run it sounds like what is needed, you poor thing. Wish I was there to look after you. Sounds like a fricken awful thing to have. Lots of kisses and hugs to you. Hope you get better soon. Love you! xxx
sounds like you have the goth bug!
longer course of antibiotics!!
Have you had your tonsils, adenoids etc out??
Have you had your turbinates trimmed??
Go to an ENT specialist and stop fucking around with a doctor with no answers!!
PS Love ya and glad to see you have spat out 19 posts since I was last here!!
